Next Meeting: Friday 3/11, 3:45-5pm — Jeff McDonough

The next meeting of the Chicago Modern Philosophy Roundtable will be Friday March 11, 2016 from 3:45-5pm at Roosevelt University (downtown).  We’ll be discussing Jeff McDonough‘s paper “Leibniz’s Formal Theory of Contingency”, which will be distributed via our email listserv.

The meeting will take place in room 720 of the Auditorium Building, at 430 South Michigan Avenue. There is parking on Congress Parkway between Michigan and Wabash, on the south side of the street. This lot can also be accessed on the east side of Wabash between Congress Parkway and Balbo. There are two other lots on Wabash between Congress Parkway and Van Buren. One can get a discounted rate by having the ticket stamped at the desk as one enters the building. Unless one has a Roosevelt ID, one needs a photo ID (preferably a driver’s license) to get in the building.

Roosevelt University is also easily accessible via public transit using the CTA Red Line (exit at the Jackson stop & walk southeast), the CTA Green Line (exit at the Adams-Wabash stop & walk south), or the CTA Brown/Pink/Orange/Purple lines (exit at the Washington Library-State/Van Buren stop & walk east-southeast).

We hope to see you there!

First Meeting of Spring 2016! (Revised 1/20/16: NEW LOCATION)

Don’t miss the Chicago Modern Philosophy Roundtable‘s first meeting of the 2016 calendar year!  We’ll be discussing Shelley Weinberg (UIUC)’s paper “Locke on Moral Motivation” — if you’d like a copy to preread, please join the CMPR listserv by signing up at http://lists.luc.edu/listinfo/chicagomodernphilosophyroundtable.

The meeting will be Friday 22 January 2016, from 3:45-5pm, at Loyola University Chicago.  The tentative location is Crown Center for the Humanities, Room 530.  (Loyola’s room reservation system will not, alas, provide confirmation until 19 January, the first day of classes, so please join the listserv to receive any last-minute location updates.) PLEASE NOTE: The new, finalized location will be Crown Center for the Humanities, Room 200.

The best way to get to Loyola’s campus is via the Red Line (Loyola stop); Crown Center for the Humanities is 0.25 mile due east of the Loyola station, right on the lake.  If you must drive, there are two options.  The risky-but-thrifty option is to take your chances with parking along W Loyola Ave, just east of N Sheridan Rd, where there is very limited free street parking on the north side of the street & very limited paid street parking on the south side of the street.  This extends only to the alley, however, and is often full.  The sure-but-more-expensive option is to park in one of Loyola’s parking garages for $7.

Please contact Kristen Irwin with any other logistical questions or issues.  We hope to see you there!
