Mark your calendars for the final CMPR meeting of the 2015-2016 academic year! We’ll be discussing a recent paper of Saja Parvizian & Joe Gottlieb (UIC) on Friday, May 13 from 3:45-5pm at the University of Chicago.
The meeting will take place in Gates-Blake Hall, Room 324. The address for Gates-Blake Hall is 5845 S Ellis Ave, although the building is entered from within the quad; you then walk up the stairs to the third floor.
Public Transportation: The only train line that connects directly to Hyde Park is the Metra Electric. You can take this to the 59th St. stop. You’ll then have to walk west on 59th St. for about 10-15 minutes to get to the quad that Gates-Blake resides on. As far as buses go, you can take the CTA 6 to 59th St. and Stony Island Ave., which is just a couple of blocks east of the Metra Electric stop. On the return trip, you could pick up the CTA 2 at the southeast corner of 60th St. and Ellis, which will take you into the loop; the last bus leaves a little after 6:00. But the Metra Electric and the CTA 6 would be options as well and run much later.
Parking: Street parking is available on Ellis Ave. and surrounding streets. Ellis, which is directly west of the quad, is metered parking. But parking along the Midway Plaisance, which is directly south of the quad (e.g., 59th St.), is free. There is a parking garage at 5525 S Ellis Ave., or a few blocks north. But it is somewhat expensive (0-2 hours = $8; 2-3 hours = $16; 3-4 hours = $20; 4+ hours = $25).
